Deep Thoughts

  • Ironically, under a private transportation model, such as most commonly relied on in the United States, commuters are more delayed and frustrated by other commuters than in a public transportation model. In a public transportation model (such as various rail systems) there is practically no way for a commuter to delay the system. However with a private transportation system commuters can and do cause a seemingly endless number of delays and frustrations upon eachother.

  • The only thing private in a private transportation system is your car, everything else is public. You are esentially operating a small private vehicle on a huge public system, which is the same thing everyone else is doing and we are all in eachother's way...

  • We have choosen to build our transportation system out of rock. And now our system, set as it is in stone, cannot practically be modified to meet our transportation needs. Transporation systems ought to be built from a medium that is easily expandable, configurable and pliable, such as steel.

  • e-rail: electric rail systems.

  • When one system is burdened to the point of failure another system is brought online, load is transfered and balanced. Commuter load will be transfered from current roadways onto e-rail systems.

  • I hope you like your new car, because if alternate transportation systems aren't built soon, you're going to be sitting in it a long, long time.

  • The average person will spend 7.8 years of his/her lifetime behind the wheel of a car, in traffic. 20 years from now that figure will be a staggering 16.4 years.

  • Traffic accidents are not accidents. The responsible party has been driving reckless for a long time, it is only now that the cards aligned against him or her, but it could have as easily happened last week, last month, last year.... it was only a matter of time.

  • To prevent traffic accidents implement a substantial penalty fee for those found to be at fault.

  • Cars are like grains of sand passing through an hourglass; rush them and they jam up and become gridlocked. Move them slowly and evenly and they flow unabatedly through the gap. Commuters driving cars do not understand this phenomenon. (they shouldn't be required to!)

  • Our mass private transportation system will eventually be scrapped because:
        1) To much responsibility for operation of the system is placed on the commuter. The system demands your full attention.
        2) Most commuters do not have the attention or skill to drive in high congestion.
        3) Commuter throughput of the system is extremely low (compared to automated rail systems).

  • People love our private transportation system because of it's "freedoms". However, people also hate our transportation system because of the overabundant freedom commuters have; commuters are free to drive irresponsibly, crash and cause you, me and everyone else significant delay and frustration. The only freedom a transportation system should provide is the freedom of movement. The commuter is free to pick a destination and the system takes her there. Commuters should not have the ability to delay other commuters.
